Introduction
Applications are invited for the position of Specialist FUA (Flexible Use of Airspace) (Grade 9) based at OR Tambo Air Traffic Control Centre. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Watch Manager: FUA (Flexible Use of Airspace). Purpose To facilitate and ensure the flexible and equitable use of airspace by various different stakeholders/parties and to operate the TOPSKY radar system to plot the area of operation for Air Traffic Controllers, and the ANAIS flight plan database to track the NOTAM (Notice to Airman) and/or flight plan.
Job description

Flexible Use of Airspace - . Receive and analyse the requirements from clients for the flexible and effective use of airspace; Negotiate with various Air Traffic Control Units for utilisation of the required airspace; Ensure equitable utilisation of available airspace; Respond to clients with approvals / non-approvals / additional requirements for usage of the

required airspace; Keep record of all received and approved/not approved requests; Negotiate airspace usage for special events, e.g. air shows, etc. Participate and support the Central Airspace Management Unit in requesting the AIP (aeronautical information package) SUPP and Notice to Airman (NOTAM); Operate the TOPSKY radar system to plot the area of operation for the ATCs, and the ANAIS flight plan database to track the NOTAM and/or flight plan; Conduct post flexible use of airspace utilisation (FUA) event analysis and report writing. Ensure formal training of staff; Act as Watch Manager: FUA when required.

 

Airport Management Centre (AMC) - Compile and distribute daily operational plans to relevant AMC representatives; Identify events affecting ATNS and update relevant AMC systems accordingly; Identify events that require a collaborative decision making process together with relevant Airport Management Centre representatives and implement action plans to resolve events; Make decisions on behalf of ATNS at AMC level; Monitor the overall performance of ATNS with respect to process quality, punctuality and continuous improvement; Participate in delay management process when required.

 

Integrated Aeronautical Information Package - Update the CAMU South African Integrated Aeronautical Information Package (IAIP); Review and update the Letter Of Procedures relative to Flexible Use of Airspace.

 

Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) - Collect information for Strategic, Pre-Tactical, and Tactical Flow Management; Interpret weather conditions and the effect thereof on air traffic, and advise relevant Air Traffic Control units of predicted adverse weather conditions in relation to traffic demand; Compile and distribute the Demand Forecast/Daily Airspace Plan; Distribute Traffic advisory and Flow Control Messages to affected ATC sectors/units; Operate air traffic flow management (ATFM) tools.

Minimum requirements

Minimum Formal Qualifications:

 

             Valid and current ATSO/AIMO ATS rating, i.e.:  Completed ATS Core Content or ATS Rating Course

 

Minimum Years of Experience:

 

             Minimum 5 years’ experience in Air Traffic Services operations

-             Experience in the application of statistical techniques

-             Knowledge of airspace infrastructure
