Introduction
Applications are invited for the OJT Instructor (Tower and Approach) at the King Shaka International Airport (FALE). The successful applicant will be reporting to the Watch Manager FALE. NB: Please note that this position is location-specific and strictly limited to employees currently based and operating from FALE. Overview To assess on-the-job and continuation training of Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) that meet the required standards to enable certification, and support safe and effective air traffic operations To conduct on-the-job training sessions by using appropriate instructional techniques and methods that will facilitate learning, and tailoring training to individual needs To act as a mentor, instructor, and evaluator, ensuring that newly qualified and experienced ATCs maintain the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency To support the safe and effective flow of air traffic in accordance with ATNS policy, aviation regulations, and ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices through the provision of effective on-the-job training to ATCs. To ensure continuous research in the industry to identify trends and new technologies that can be implemented internally to enhance the current safety.
Job description

Major Activities 
 
Training Needs 
Contribute to the identification of training needs for Air Traffic Controllers that can be covered through on-job-training (OJT) or additional formal training if required.
 
Assessment of Competence 
Conduct on-the-job training sessions, using appropriate instructional techniques and methods, and tailoring training to individual needs, and which include:
Course readiness training, Pre-course training, Validation training, Continuation training, Procedural training, Gap training, Post-safety event training, Remedial training, Emergency, degraded modes and recovery training.

Present information effectively, manage trainees, and utilise various training methods including simulations. Conduct ongoing formative assessment of trainee performance throughout the training period, provide constructive feedback, and document progress.  Perform Guest Instructor duties when required.  Maintain training documentation.
 
Safety Oversight
Ensure the safety and efficiency of operations during training, adhering to safety regulations and human factor principles.
 
Training Material Development
Contribute to the preparation of the curriculum and training programme for Air Traffic Controllers.
Prepare training plans, schedules, and materials in accordance with Unit Training Plans (UTP).
 
Documentation and Reporting
Complete required training documentation, including training reports and formative assessments.
 
Communication and Feedback
Maintain clear communication with trainees, line managers, and operations training, providing feedback, and addressing any concerns or issues.
 
Continuous Improvement
Participate in refresher training to stay updated on best practice and new techniques

Minimum requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Applicable ATCO or ATSO Rating in the relevant discipline
OJTI Rating 
Assessor Training certification will be advantageous; however, candidates without this qualification will be provided with the required training.

Train-the-Trainer certification will be advantageous; however, candidates without this qualification will be provided with the required training

Minimum Experience

ATCO1 - 1 year experience as a validated ATCO at FALE 
ATCO3 - 3 years’ experience as a validated ATCO at FALE
