Introduction
Applications are invited for the position of Senior Instructor: Engineering Training (Peromnes Grade 8) based at the Aviation Training Academy. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Manager: Engineering Training.
The purpose of the job is to deliver engineering training courses and conduct research on product offerings relating to ATM /CNS systems for internal, external and selected international clients within and outside the ATM community.
Job description
- Conduct research on future ATM /CNS systems and provide solutions to enable the department to remain competitive in terms of being the preferred training provider.
- Conduct thorough research to derive solutions to the development of courses within and outside CNS environment and produce research papers that will benefit the aviation fraternity.
- Compile comprehensive reports and implementation plans on research conducted in the external professional environment (formal and informal training, conferences, seminars etc.)
- Observe and study new instructional techniques for conducting classes and implement measures to improve training delivery.
- Derive and apply technologies where applicable to enhance the learning environment.
- Conduct training needs analysis (TNA) on training product offerings as and when required and provide the necessary training interventions.
- Represent the training perspective at the research, technology and development forums on future ATM /CNS system acquisitions and present research papers on future trends.
- Interpret performance, reliability, maintainability, availability and monitoring of ATM /CNS systems for statistical purposes.
- Design survey instruments to determine validity, sufficiency and quality of product offerings
- Design, conduct, and/or review surveys to be used for division wide priorities and initiatives.
- Analyze data collected as part of the surveys and develop reports, including recommendations and respond to research related queries and troubleshoot research problems.
- Present research findings to management in an understandable manner.
- Ensure the presentation of courses and assessments are conducted in compliance with QMS procedures and curricula /syllabi.
- Present courses in Communication/Navigation/Surveillance discipline.
- Moderate course materials within field of knowledge to determine validity, sufficiency, content and quality.
- Moderate assessment tools.
- Participate in project team(s) w.r.t. new training systems installation/s and/or the upgrade as and when required by the business.
- Assist and co-ordinate the installation /implementation of engineering systems at the Aviation Training Academy (ATA).
- Represent the training perspective on ATNS project forums in terms of URS and bid evaluations.
- Provide engineering instructor support to the Course Development Unit in re-engineering training material/s to meet the expectations of clients and relevant training regulatory bodies.
- Provide engineering instructor support in developing training material/s of the newly installed systems to enhance training product offering.
- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on training systems to ensure availability for training purposes as per QMS procedures.
- Calibrate the ATA training and maintenance test equipment in accordance with QMS procedures.
- Provide mentorship to engineering instructors and support personnel within area of responsibility.
- Promote ATNS corporate culture within area if responsibility.
- Prepare and submit budget inputs for the research and development initiatives aimed at improving the departments’ product offerings.
- Continuously engage original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) on future training systems and recommend the necessary training interventions to ATA management.
- Collaborate with tertiary institutions on development of research-based training solutions that will enable a seamless transition of students from academic to work environment.
Minimum requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- B-Tech /B. Eng. /BSc. Degree (NQF 7) in Electrical /Electronic /Computer Engineering or relevant.
- Train the Trainer and OJTI qualification from an approved institution.
Minimum Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in course presentation, research, operation, maintenance and engineering support of ATM /CNS systems and associated training systems.
Desirable additional work experience and personal qualities
- Assessor and Moderator qualification from an approved institution.
- Experience in licensing, testing and calibration of appropriate ATM /CNS equipment as governed by ICAO standards and recommended practices.
- Ability to deliver engineering training of all courses in Communication /Navigation /Surveillance discipline.
- Knowledge and working experience in conducting research on new or re-engineered product offerings.
- Conversant in Microsoft Office Applications and LINUX /UNIX.
- Familiar with Learning Management Systems such as Moodle, Blackboard. Sakai etc.
