Introduction
Applications are invited for the position of Environmental Specialist (Grade 7) based at Bruma. The successful applicants will be reporting to the Head of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment.
Job description
Develop & Maintain Environmental Management and systems - Support the development of the Environmental strategy and provide leadership in the development of annual environmental plans in line with the environmental strategy and corporate plans. Provide leadership in the development, implementation and maintenance of environmental management system within ATNS. Assess environmental inefficiencies and noncompliances and recommend improvements across the business. Facilitating the implementation and monitoring the Environmental plans, programmes and projects in line with the approved environmental strategy and within legal prescripts. Ensures organisation’s compliance with applicable environmental requirements and best practices at national and international level in alignment with the aviation industry requirements. Keep abreast with environmental trends and best practices and determine applicability to ATNS. Ensure alignment of ATNS environmental programmes with global aviation Environmental goals. Ensure alignment of environmental objectives and outcomes to the vision, mission and values of ATNS. Advise on the environmental requirements across the value chain on current and new projects and developments.
Environmental Assurance, Auditing and training - Develop annual audit plan and coordinate for internal & external audits. Conducts regular audits to identify potential risks, opportunities and make recommendations to ensure regulatory compliance. Undertake environmental audits and inspection to determine compliance with authorizations and Environmental Management Programme (EMP). Assist in acquiring, and maintaining environmental management system accreditation. Ensure integration with other standards such as Quality management and Occupational health and safety management systems. Ensures that the organisation meets regulatory compliance standards. Promote environmental awareness and communication through conducting training and environmental education across business units and levels of the business and contractors. Develop relevant assurance reports, track and monitor outcomes.
Environmental reporting and engagement - Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in implementing environmental programmes. Analyse environmental data to identify trends and make recommendations. Develop environmental performance reports on environmental parameters i.e. Water, Waste, Biodiversity, Air quality and noise management. Provide input in corporate sustainability reports and programmes. Development of environmental templates, forms and reporting systems to support decision making and enable efficiency in responding to environmental matters. Participate in working groups and cross functional teams. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual performance reports. Ensure alignment and management of programmes within budget and on time.
Minimum requirements
Minimum Qualification:
· Bachelor's degree NQF 7 in Environmental Science/Management or another related field
· Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) qualification
· Understanding of the environmental issues in the aviation industry
· General understanding of environmental legislation and environmental legislation applicable to aviation
Minimum Experience:
· Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Environmental Management/Science
· Experience in Environmental Management System implementation (ISO 14001)
