Job description

Applications are invited for the position of Planning and Quality Specialist: Operational Systems (Peromnes Grade 7) based at Cape Town Control Tower Complex.

Overview

ATNS is seeking an incumbent to ensure that the ATNS air traffic management systems are efficient and optimal for the delivery of ATC/CNS/ATM services. 

Major Activities
  • Review user requirements and provide expert specialist input.
  • Translate user requirements into functional specification and detail technical design specifications
  • Provide specialist input to specifications and reviews.
  • Initiate and conduct research and compile documentation for proposed technological changes related to systems.
  • Develop and manage critical system specialized functions related to data-base files.
  • Provide specialized input and give guidance to the various pool managers into changing operational procedures.
  • Provide specialised input in the development of and give guidance to the various pool managers into changing operational procedures (this has a major impact on improved service delivery.
  • Collaborate input from technical services required to analyse and make recommendations on all operational system escalated faults and potential problems on system performance.
  • Identify, co-ordinate and implement projects to improve the ATNS CNS/ATM Concept.
  • Provide support for Disaster Recovery, Test and Evaluation and Simulator datasets, as well as technical services fault management where required.
  • Test and validate changes, including software releases to the system specific database prior to implementation.
  • Conduct tender evaluations on various systems that might have an impact on any operational system.
  • Monitor, investigate and research performance shortcomings in ATM systems, re-design and make recommendations with regard to improvements and/or maintenance activities.
  • Develop, manage and maintain critical operational systems standard operating procedures and datasets to be used.
  • Ensure that any amendments to operational processes and procedures are aligned with the SSS status.
  • Ensure that standard operations procedures reflect latest configuration and procedures for current infrastructure and database versions.
  • Participate and contribute in CNS/ATM forum’s such as Specialist User Groups, ICAO, ITU-T, CANSO, etc.
  • Analysis of diagnostic information from technicians and system engineers.
  • Implement system capacity forecast models based on utilization trends.
  • Analyze current system functionality and establish gaps.
  • Research new solutions and provide expert specialist advise in technology solutions alternatives.

Minimum requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Degree or BTech in Electronic Engineering or Computer Science or related field
  • Qualifications allowing administration to the Engineering Council of SA as a Professional Engineer or Engineering Technician could be an added advantage
  • Linux certificate will be an added advantage
Minimum Experience:
  • 5 years’ experience in the operation, maintenance and support of ATM systems and equipment.
  • Specialized knowledge of ATM/CNS system architecture, administration and configuration control.
  • In-depth understanding of systems and the interaction between airborne aircraft systems and ATM support options/requirements/efficiency drivers.
  • In-depth understanding of Air Traffic Management processes and procedures (added advantage).
